Federal authorities say the intelligence services of the Russian Federation are seeking to kill people in the U.S. and European countries supporting Ukraine. An indictment unsealed Tuesday in Manhattan federal court named five people who it said were part of a network seeking to carry out killings and terrorism in those countries. None of the individuals named in the indictment were in custody and were presumed to be living abroad. FBI officials said the agency and its partners had disrupted Russia’s attempts to conduct violent acts in Washington, D.C., and throughout the United States. The indictment said the efforts included an attempt to target a prominent Russian dissident this summer.
