The European Union has imposed sanctions on nearly 1,600 Russian individuals and companies linked to Russia’s arms industry. The sanctions, announced Monday, notably target those suspected of making parts for drones and missiles. It is the biggest single listing of sanctions since the Kremlin launched its full-scale war on Ukraine almost five years ago. The EU also targeted 77 people accused of organizing or participating in “sham elections” in occupied parts of Ukraine. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said more than half of the sanctions address the production chain for ballistic missiles used against Ukrainian civilians.
