President Donald Trump has called for the prosecution of a Democratic Senate candidate whose campaign reportedly put a man with the same name as Alaska's Republican senator on that state's ballot. That campaign trick is a familiar one in American politics. John F. Kennedy used it to win his first election in 1946. Trump's own operation is supporting a so-called spoiler third-party candidate in a key Ohio Senate race. Trump has used his Justice Department as a political tool to pursue his enemies, even in the days before the election. There have been previous prosecutions of people for such candidate schemes, however.
