Patrick Dewayne Smith is rebuilding his life after serving 13 years in prison on drug charges. But after a Supreme Court ruling in May he could be sent back for life. Advocates say he's one of about a dozen people caught between differing interpretations of the First Step Act. That's a criminal justice reform bill that was passed during the first Trump administration. They say that without White House intervention, Smith and others like him may have to return to prison to finish out long sentences that wouldn't be handed down today.
