COASTTV'S MATT PENCEK: "There's been a domino effect. Your seat's open and the representative of our state, Lisa Blunt Rochester, is now running for that seat. That's creating an opening for the representative seat. We've got three candidates right now running for that. What are your thoughts on what you've created and just a little bit about those other races that are now taking place because of your [retirement] announcement?"

SEN. TOM CARPER: "Well, I am very proud of the kind of state. When I came to the state right out of the Navy, we had the worst credit rating in the country, we were tied for dead last with Puerto Rico, where our ability to create jobs and provide jobs and economically were in the toilet."

"We've come so far. We were fiscally responsible here, we had the best credit rating in the country, we have one of the best jobs in terms of the lowest unemployment rates in the country... We've worked really hard to make sure people have access to healthcare. That's our legacy, that's part of my legacy, part of our legacy. I feel great to, feel blessed to, have had a chance to help lead the state at a time when those things happened."
