Splash Laundromat Owners Receive Rebate Through DSHA's Developing Downtown Districts Program

GEORGETOWN, Del.- The Nunez family is looking to make a splash in downtown Georgetown with the Splash Laundromat, a place where people can sit and do their own laundry or drop off their clothes to be washed.

Customers will soon be able to go to a coffee shop right next door. The Nunez's have two other businesses in Sussex County, one in Millsboro and another in Georgetown. Enrique developed a passion and ran with the opportunity.

"He loves to work with the machines and all that," Owner Veronica Nunez said. "That is something that he always dreamed to have. That is why we wanted to get into the laundromat business. He saw the need of the community to have a laundromat."

The process in opening a third business began back in September 2015 when the Nunez family purchased the property. They made a 2.7 million dollar renovation to have the laundromat, a hair salon, coffee shop and snack bar downstairs and apartments upstairs.  Enrique Nunez had the vision to get into the laundering business.

Through the Developing Downtown Districts program, the Delaware State Housing Authority started the program back six years ago in an effort to create more jobs and build communities and business districts. They have designated twelve districts including Georgetown eligible for businesses to request a rebate for twenty percent of eligible costs.

"This area has been coming to the front now," Mayor West said. "It is coming to the front more because of projects like this. This project has made other people look and I think we have some apartments being built soon in this area. We have habitat homes built in this area. We are seeing the area change and its changing for the better of the community."
