State of the State Town Hall in Sussex County

LEWES, Del. - On Tuesday, Governor John Carney toured the Lewes Public Library and then held a State of the State Town Hall at the Lewes Fire Department Station Two.

Governor Carney announced the state will be launching a pilot program of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in 13 public libraries. With this initiative participating kids will get one free book a month starting from birth to five years old.

"What I'm most excited about is his help in expanding Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to include 4 more school districts … it's just really exciting. More books into more hands of kids,” said Jennifer Noonan, children’s librarian at Lewes Public Library.

At the State of the State Town Hall, the Governor had a conversation with the public on the State of the State address. The community was able to ask the Governor questions, face-to-face, which ranged from financial literacy, to infrastructure concerns, to gun rights.

Representative Steve Smyk, who was in attendance, says the Governor is going to hold a State of the State Town Hall in each county.

"For me it's a really good opportunity to get out and talk to the people of our state and the people that I work for. It's a good opportunity to explain to them what we're doing with their tax dollars. And it's a good opportunity to listen and hear what people think we ought to be doing in state government," said Governor Carney.
