"There is improved cell turnover, healthier cells last longer just because the body is producing healthier endorphins or makers that facilitate and make it easier to fight off infections and problems."

Dr. Neves said that straining the body while working out can make you stronger inside and out, but your age can make a difference; "with exercise you don't want to stress the heart and lungs to a point they cannot tolerate it."

Dave Kergaard has been a trainer for almost twenty years, he believes the gym is the best form of medicine.

"You're in the gym, you're getting stronger, you're lowering your blood pressure. We have seen so many people who have gone on an exercise program who have actually reduced the amount or even eliminated medications they have been on," said Kergaard.
