SUSSEX COUNTY, Del.- It won’t be official until Thursday, but thirty years for Habitat for Humanity is a big accomplishment.
164 homes built, 258 homes repaired, and 3,047 lives it has changed. Executive Director Kevin Gilmore says there are so many people to thank for that.
"Just to realize that over the past thirty years so many people have come together who care about the community to really make an impact and make a difference," Gilmore said. "I am just happy to be a part of it."
The ReStore has been a part of Sussex County Habitat for Humanity for twelve years. About four of them have been spent at the Lewes location. Manager Cathy Basenese says that volunteers drive builds and the office’s and store’s operations.
There are many of them that do it just to help but it is an opportunity to spend time with friends that are more like family.
"It’s amazing that at the ReStore and at the build side that the team of volunteers that the group of volunteers that volunteer together at the same time on the same days but they have their own little jobs they do," Basenese said.
The year-long party celebrating three decades begins this Saturday at 9 a.m.
"We’ll be groundbreaking a five-house project in downtown Laurel called Hope Hill," Gilmore said. "Also, we’ll do a "Rock The Block" throughout the day in partnership with a local church in the Father’s Heart Ministry where we’ll be working on beautification of several properties."
On June 19, Habitat will be hosting a Zumba fundraiser on the ReStore Lawn from 8 to 10 a.m.. It is twenty dollars to participate. You can register at https://build.sussexcountyhabitat.org/.
