REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.- About 10:30 a.m. with people lined up and phones in hand, President Joe Biden arrived in his motorcade to Rehoboth Beach City Hall with secret service and other security nearby.
The commander in chief gave the country's May jobs report from the third floor of city hall.
"Our economy created 559,000 new jobs," President Biden said. "Unemployment fell to five point eight percent and wages went up for American workers."
About twenty minutes after pulling in, the president emerged to cheers exiting city hall. People lining Rehoboth Avenue on both sides to see him and say hello.
Zoe Carroll works at Bad Hair Day? Salon which is where the motorcade passed before entering the city hall parking lot. She was shocked she would get to experience seeing the president in person.
"We all came to the corner and I got a really cool video of him," Carroll said. "He waved to me and it was just really cool. I don't know. It was just I've never been that close to him before or even seen him in person.
Thursday, the first couple was only spotted in public twice. The first lady taking a cycling class at Sea Barre Fitness in Lewes. Then, the Bidens bike riding through Cape Henlopen State Park.
Lieutenant Jaime Riddle of Rehoboth Beach Police has been part of the presidential escort over the last three days. He says the department was notified Thursday night about Friday's event at City Hall and he communicates with the secret service to get all of the details hashed out.
"They have an important mission which is to protect the President of the United States and it's our job when they come into Rehoboth Beach to help them with that mission and we do whatever we can in our means to do that," Riddle said.
After the remarks, the president and first lady flew on Marine One from Gordons Pond up to Dover Air Force Base. There is where they boarded Air Force One back to Washington D.C.
Trip one in the books with the possibility of more trips to their summer home in the future.
