SALISBURY, Md.- The Eastern Shore Literacy Association gathered on Wednesday evening at Salisbury University to honor the winners of the 2020 Young Author's contest.
Over 200 entries across from public, private, and home-schooled students grades 1-12 were submitted in the poetry and short story categories.
The top winners from each grade level and category went on to compete in the state level of the competition. Placing 1st and 2nd in the state are three students from James M. Bennett High School.
Those students are:
- Jenny Chen, Grade 11 Short Story – 1st Place
- Emily Garlock, Grade 9 Poetry – 2nd Place
- Maya Matava, Grade 10 Poetry – 2nd Place
Lizanne Wallace, ESLA Young Authors’ Contest co-chair, says students from the Eastern Shore continue to be a good representation of student skill and strong teaching.
“Our writers continue to get better and better every year," Wallace said. "We are proud of their accomplishments as well their teacher’s dedication to improve writing instruction."
