(CONCORD, Del.) - A grisly discovery in Concord Saturday afternoon has residents on edge and Animal Control on alert.

Delaware State Police say it happened on Saturday, May 14 when someone reported a suspicious black garbage bag in Concord Pond. Upon arrival, police discovered a dead Pit Bull inside.

"I thought this was crazy. I couldn't believe it ever happened," said Linnill Winston of Concord. "It's really sad that it happened to a dog especially since my favorite animal was a dog growing up and somebody actually did kill it, so it opens up old wounds."

"It's very seldom stuff happens around here. It's real quiet around here," said Shelly Bolden.

Bolden lives right across the street from Concord Pond. She says no one in this particular area is allowed to even own a pet.

"Our landlord of all these houses right here, up in this area, we're not allowed to have animals. So, it's shocking that you'd find a dead animal over there," said Bolden.

Ironically, Bolden says a couple who breeds Pit Bulls lives just four miles down the road in Bridgeville. Shocked by the news, Corey Sanders, owner of Mill Park Kenelz, says he's been breeding Pit Bulls for the past 15 years.

"It's just horrifying man, it's horrifying," said Sanders. "It's sad, sad, real sad."

Sanders says incidents like this make it harder for all Pit Bulls.

"They already have a bad reputation now as it is," explained Sanders. "This diminishes what other breeders are trying to do. We're trying to uplift the breed, keep the breed alive. To hear stuff like this, it just continues to keep downgrading the breed."
