UPDATE: No Injuries After Massive Garage Fire in Lewes

LEWES, Del.- A fire broke out in house garage in Lewes Wednesday evening.

The Lewes Fire Department got the call to the home on Peregrine Road in the Hawkseye development right before 7:00 p.m. It was 30 minutes from the time the department got the call, to the time the fire was under control.

One of the homeowners says she was making dinner for her family when a neighbor told her that her garage was smoking. Right away she and her husband got the kids and pets out safely. They then moved two of the cars in the garage, and were not able to move the third. Fire marshals say the fire started inside a car running in the garage and a mechanical malfunction with the vehicle caused the fire.

Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Milton, and Indian River Fire Departments were all on scene. Part of the house caught on fire, but mostly sustained smoke and water damage.

Heavy fire damage was estimated at $400,000.   There were no reported injuries.
