LEWES, Del. - The United States Postal Service is considering moving the Nassau Post Office to a different location. The lease at the Nassau Post Office is expiring soon, and the postal service says it has outgrown the small Five-Points location. On a normal day, long lines wrap around the building that houses the post office. "It's just small, it's inconvenient," said Sandi Snowberger, from Lewes.
The postal services wants to move the Nassau Post Office to a bigger location, a building about 1,500 square feet with 10 parking spaces with "the same level of service.”
"We're usually waiting, they only got so much space to wait on in here ... It's good to see them expanding. Like this office, it's something the public needs,” said Snowberger.
While the building is small, some say the traffic and parking situation makes it worse.
It's so small, you can't fit none of the people in ... It's really bad with the traffic, because you have Coastal coming on, then you have this coming up, and it's very hard getting out,” said Mary Prreri, another Lewes resident.
WRDE reached out to USPS and they kindly declined to do an interview because the project is still processing. The postal service says once it has gathered all of the information, the project will then be open for discussion.
The Postal Service said in a statement “There will be no changes to mail delivery, customer's addresses or post office boxes as a part of this new establishment."
"I love it here, they are such a great staff, I always have pleasant experiences. It's a little bit tiny, so if it's going to a bigger place that's probably better. I hope it's not going to be super far,” said Dima Yakhour from Rehoboth Beach.
It won't be super far, because the new building will be in the same 19969 zip code. No word on where, or if it will move, but there is one request.
"Keep the staff, we love them, they're so cute, they're very helpful!” Yakhour said.
The Postal Service is encouraging the public to mail in a comment with their thoughts and opinions at:
