2015 Sea Witch Parade

2015 Sea Witch Parade

(REHOBOTH, Del)- The 26th Annual Sea Witch Festival is underway in Rehoboth Beach.

WRDE covered the parade down Rehoboth Avenue live on NBC Coast TV.

The parade featured, floats, marching bands, balloons, and folks from local businesses all dressed in costume.

Spectators for the event arrived hours before "I was up at 5AM this morning and that's when I started putting my makeup on," said Kathy Deiss who has attended the parade for the past 8 years.

Deiss attends the parade with a purpose "I come down and I hand out toys and candy to the kids on the side of the road that may not be able to afford costumes to be in the parade."

Parade watchers, Marcelo Araujo and Joseph Scott, set up an area alongside the parade with tables and lots of Sea Witch related treats.

Such as, pumpkin cupcakes, pumpkin bars with pecan nuts, and bagels with pumpkin cream cheese.

The food is not just for them, they encourage "people from the parade to stop by grab a cupcake and keep going," said Araujo.

One organization parading down Rehoboth Avenue used their costume to make a statement.

John Doerfler with the Delaware Surf Rider Foundation, was wearing 749 plastic bags as his costume.

"It's one years worth of plastic bags that one person will throw away if they do not use a reusable bag. We're trying to educate everybody that this is what ends up in a landfill, when you do not reduce, reuse, and recycle," said Doerfler.

As a surfer, Doerfler said he sees plastic in the ocean way too often.

Many said the parade was a huge success this year. But in case you missed it, the parade will replay on My Cozy TV Sunday, October 25, 2015 at 11am on Comcast 204 and Mediacom 99.
