70 Degree Temps Draw People Outside, Taking Advantage of the Warm Wave

(LEWES, Del.) -"Got to take advantage of it while it's here. You never know, the end of the week it could be snowing or something," says Merrill Liggett of Lewes.

"This is not normal. This is unusual, and it's going to get cold again tomorrow," adds Bill Liggett, her husband.

The couple walks Cape Henlopen State Park with their dog, Buster. That's because it's a 70-degree December day, nearly 15 degrees warmer than yesterday and something the Liggetts say is abnormal for this time of year in Delaware.

They are not the only ones enjoying the warmer weather. Stevie Tatman and his wife drive thirty miles from Bridgeville to sight see at the park.

"We're just coming out here for the day because it's very nice out," says Stevie.

Park guests say to take advantage of the warmth while we have it. People visiting Cape Henlopen State Park say there's only one thing you should be doing on a beautiful day like today, and that's going to the top of the observation tower.

At the top of the deck, one family enjoys the scenic views while trying to not get blown off the deck. "Yeah it's a good day, but it's a little windy, but that's fine," laughs Xavier Macias.

"Perfect weather for today," adds Denise Smith.

"Don't go swimming, though," warns Xavier.

Another family climbs all the way up to admire their rock art masterpiece.

"We were just coming up to look at the heart we built down there. It's really fun to come up here and see the funny things people put down there," says Ashton Palmer of Lewes.

The Johnsons say Delaware weather is unpredictable. "The weather is just like my grandfather said, 'If you don't like the weather in Delaware, just wait a minute," says Chris Johnson. They came to the park from Georgetown to walk their dog.

The weather will, in fact, change in a minute - dropping back down into the thirties so people exploring Cape Henlopen State Park have the right idea.
