A Look Inside the Unique Sport, SUP Skating

OCEAN CITY, Del.- You've heard of skateboarding, paddle-boarding, and snow boarding, but have you heard of SUP Skating? Standing for Stand Up Paddle-board Skating, it's an evolution of paddle-boarding on the road.

Moving in unison, father-daughter duo Don and Lily Sandusky glide across the path at Northside Park.

"If you're thinking I can do that, you know what, you can. I have people in their 70s who are just starting to do this. They were avid surfers or skateboarders back in the day and they just can't do that anymore," said Sandusky, owner of Hamboards.

It looks like a small skateboard or small paddle-board, with wheels and a pole to push you. But Sandusky says it's its own sport.

A Look Inside the Unique Sport, SUP Skating

Sandusky owns Hamboards, a company that sells boards in all shapes and sizes. The company even making an appearance on Shark Tank a few years ago. His hope is to bring more attention to the sport and show that anyone can do it.

"It's a whole other feeling than anything I've done. I've never been a good skateboarder but as soon as I got on this board I curve and I shred and it's a whole other feeling," said Lily Sandusky.

This January the duo takes off to Florida for the Miami Ultraskate, an endurance competition to see how far you can skate for 24 hours.

"A NASCAR motor speedway and we have the whole thing to ourselves. It's one big party but everyone who is partying is working their butts off," said Sandusky.

Pushing it to the limits, while creating memories.

"We have strolls all the time, we travel all over the place, it's a really good bonding experience. We help each other out all the time and it's really nice to have someone to count on when you do this stuff," said Lily Sandusky. Miami Ultraskate kicks off January 30 and runs through the 31st. If you want to stay updated, the event will be live-streaming on the

Hamboards Facebook page.
