AAA Says Gas Prices are Lower, Drivers Continue to Take Advantage of the Changes

DELAWARE- A new year and a new thing for drivers to look forward to on the roads.  AAA says kicking off the new year gas prices are lower than usual, but some drivers don't necessarily see it that way. AAA says that anytime we start a new year people tend to be hitting the roads more often and good news for those drivers who plan to get on the road, when you go to the pump you might notice that the prices are a little bit lower than they've been in the recent past.

Paul Tocco, from Milton said, "Since August I've done about ten round trips up to Connecticut, New York and back."

A new year and new prices at the pump, still getting many drivers out and about.

Cliff Jewell, from Milton said, "Yeah we travel basically all around the United States, but mostly right now we've been doing the East Coast."

AAA says our region is seeing lower prices over the past few weeks.

Ken Grant, AAA Spokesperson said, "Yet for some reason raw crude oil prices are increasing slightly, but or price at the pump especially in the Delaware Maryland area is remaining relatively low."

AAA says since prices are lower now, it's a great time to take to the pavement, and take advantage of this while it lasts, but when it comes to prices, people at the pump today don't see the same things AAA is reporting.

Tocco said, "Just this morning, you know yesterday it was about $2.39 and this morning it's $2.45, you know it's funny when it goes down in Delaware, it goes down a penny or two at a time, when it goes up seven, ten cents at a clip."

Both of those drivers from Milton say the gas prices haven't stopped them from taking a few road trips. COVID also has not slowed them down, just added a little extra caution to their journeys. AAA says Delaware is usually around the lower side of gas prices in our region, but did mention that prices tend to rise like a rocket, and drop like a feather. AAA says that other than worrying about filling your car up before you take that road trip, you're also going to want to think about checking your battery and your tires before you get on the roads, so you can continue to be safe in your travels.
