American Flag Guardians Requesting to Build Veterans Memorial

LEWES, Del.- The American Flag Guardians of Lewes are proposing that a veterans memorial be built in Canal Front Park.

The organization is most known for giving and installing new flags to veterans who wish to have them and properly retiring old flags. They are looking for other ways to honor veterans in a city that is known for its historical significance. Founder of American Flag Guardians John Nehrbas thinks veterans should be thanked for their service and a memorial would help accomplish that.

"In the city, we have a World War II base which is a fantastic resource and a great park," Nehrbas said. "But, the city needs something to honor its veterans and our vision for 2021 is to bring a veterans memorial to the city of Lewes that is led from the community for the community."

The Lewes Parks and Recreation Commission will discuss the possibility of building a memorial and potential locations at their meeting on December 21.
