Army Veteran is Donated New Roof as Part of Owens Corning Roof Development Project

MILFORD, Del.- Giving back to those who give the ultimate sacrifice.

United States Army veteran Angel Ortiz-Delgado has been living in his Milford home since 2011. As years went by his roof was damaged by storms, and wood started to rot making the roof unsafe for his family of three to live under. His wife is a member of the military and they have a seven-year-old daughter.

When Ortiz-Delgado realized he could apply for the Owens Corning Roof Development Project, he jumped right on it. He later received the call that he qualified and would be getting a new roof at no cost. The emotions poured from him.

"I feel blessed honestly," Ortiz-Delgado said. "Before all of this, I was stressed out. I didn't know how I was going to get it prepared. All I had was enough to pay the basic bills to have a roof over my head, but the only thing that came over my head was, I have a roof over my head but for how long."

According to Ferris Home Improvements, the project would normally cost about $30,000. Ortiz-Delgado is getting it for free as a thank you for his service. Walter "Reds" Ferris hopes to be a part of more projects like this in the future. This is the first project for a veteran that the company has contributed to in Delaware.

"I'm hoping this right here gets more people to join this program," Ferris said. "I think a lot of veterans don't believe that this could happen. I don't think Angel signed up for this knowing that he was going to get a roof donated to him and here he is having a roof done free of cost. I'd love to do another one."

The repairs to the roof are expected to be completed within two days to a week. Operation Homefront will look to help even more veterans across the country who desperately need it.

A new chapter and a new safe haven for the Ortiz-Delgado family.
