DEWEY BEACH, Del.- The dash for delicious treats was on by the Baywalk in Dewey Beach.
The event was canceled last year, but kids, adults and dogs were able to have some holiday fun Saturday. Dewey Business Partnership sponsored the event and was helped by Hyatt Place, Woody’s Dewey Beach, and town leaders.
Kids were separated into three different age groups to pick up as many eggs and treats as they could. Dewey Business Partnership Executive Director Kelly Ranieri says it was great to see the smiles on their faces,
"It’s exciting to see all of the kids out there because there are restrictions within the schools and so many of the activities that they cannot participate in," Ranieri said. "So to have them come out here and do this, I saw a lot of my former students. It was wonderful."
Adults donated ten dollars to the partnership to participate in a hunt. One special egg could be cashed in to take home fifty percent of the proceeds. People also dressed up their dogs for a parade on the beach.
Dewey Beach Town Manager Bill Zolper hopes that this is only the start of events to come in town over the spring and summer seasons.
"Of course we are going to follow the governor’s guidance with COVID going forward," Zolper said. "But, I am hoping with the vaccinations rolling out and more people getting vaccinated day after day, that Dewey Beach will be wide open this summer."
It was a long time to wait for a holiday tradition to return, but for many people the safe family experience was worth it.
