REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - On Monday afternoon, Beebe Healthcare hosted a beam celebration for its Specialty Surgical Hospital at the Rehoboth Health Campus.
"As we move towards really developing the next generation of care, this is the milestone that really says what we are doing,” says Dr. David Tam, Beebe Healthcare’s President and CEO.
Staff members signed the beam that had a tree and flag on top, which both have symbolic meanings.
“So what we've had here for today. we have a safe work site, we're celebrating bringing the building good luck and providing the next generation of health care,” says Mark Loukides, VP of Facilities and Environment of Care.
With an ideal location right off of Route 24, the center will offer outpatient surgery, robotic surgery, minimally invasive surgery, and a same-day surgery program.
"You won't have to worry about emergencies coming in or traumas coming in like you do at our main health campus, that could bump your surgery off or postpone it,” says Tom Protack, President of Beebe Medical Foundation.
Beebe broke ground a little over a year ago on this four story surgery center. The estimated cost of the project sits at $124 million.
Dr. Tam says it's a great way to shape Beebe's future by doing new and exciting things in Sussex County.
"Patients can now get the opportunity to do rehab before they even get surgery, so it reduces their recovery time, pain levels, you know all the things necessary for them to get back to work faster,” says Dr. Tam.
He also adds that the hospital could not do this by themselves, “whether it's this building or COVID-19, we really need the community support, you know as I say, help us help you.”
The center is expected to be completed by June 2022.
