Beebe Healthcare Hosts Testing in Georgetown with Help from the State

GEORGETOWN, Del.- More testing for Sussex County as Southern Delaware is the state's newest hot spot. Beebe Healthcare, DPH, DHSS, La Red Health Center and the VA Clinic teamed up for the drive-thru testing. The state says with more testing is going to bring more positive cases. And some think this could have happened a little sooner. Bill West, the Mayor of Georgetown said, "I wish it had been done three weeks ago."  He wishes this happened sooner but he knows its all about learning.  "It's an educational process," he said. Today healthcare providers and the state teamed up to provide more accurate testing for Sussex County, the states newest hot spot. Dr. Rick Hong, Medical director for DPH said, "The Testing will kind of give us a better idea where the positives or the ones at high risk for infection are."  DPH says Georgetown was picked as one of the places for testing because of the high risk of community spread, and rising numbers in the county. "Giving us more data to understand what the population risks are," Hong said. Beebe Healthcare says it tried to get through the testing as quick as it could and also as best as it could. And there were options like La Red Health Center and the Beebe COVID positive care center for those who needed follow up care. Another new asset is adding testing options and education for asymptomatic patients. Rick Schaffner, the Executive Vice President of Beebe Healthcare said, "To give us the opportunity to determine if there's any patients in the community that are carrying the Coronavirus but that are not necessarily displaying the symptoms as of yet."  But these new sights do not push aside the fact Delawareans still need to follow all recommendations by the CDC and the state.  "So please follow our recommendations, social distancing stay at home as you need, don't go to work when you're sick, these will help us overall fight this together," Hong said. As for the hot spot of Georgetown in Sussex County, West said, "And we will be a better Georgetown when this is all done."   This type of testing will continue tomorrow with Bayhealth at the DHSS office in Milford. But both healthcare providers have testing planned until Monday for the county.
