GEORGETOWN, Del. - The Brandywine Valley SPCA is holding drive-thru pet food pantries to help pet owners in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. Free pet food will be given out on April 30th at Sussex Academy and on May 1st at the Kent County Administration Complex. Both drive-thrus will run from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.
"They will be contactless food pantries where people can drive up and let us know from a six-foot distance how many animals they have in their family." says Marketing Director Linda Torelli says. "They open their hatchback or trunk, we load in the food and then they go on their way.'
BVSPCA has already helped two drive-thru pantries in Pennsylvania. Torelli says over 500 families came out.
Torelli says the Petco Foundation has donated a lot of food. She says BVSPCA has had to purchase a lot of cat food on their own. Members of the community can make donations on BVSPCA's website or through the organization's Amazon wishlist.
