Cape Henlopen High School Hand-Delivers Diplomas to Graduates' Homes

LEWES, Del. - On Wednesday morning, Cape Henlopen High School graduates received their diplomas right at their doorsteps. Staff members drove around the district to the graduates' homes to personally deliver diplomas, signs, and senior awards.

"We had the signs out at the Hudson Field event, and yesterday we re-organized them and you can see here that we have routes that are divided based on where the student lives," says Cape Principal, Nikki Miller.

With the help of over 100 staff members, the school delivered diplomas to 350 graduated seniors.

"I went to Milton yesterday, because we had a student who had to work today and tomorrow so I went  a little early for her. Tomorrow I have a couple of special deliveries to make too," says Miller.

One student woke up to Miller at his home, waiting to give him his diploma.

"This has been a difficult time for everybody but we've certainly done our best to make sure our students knew that we care about them," says Miller.

Another student came out of his home dressed in his cap and gown.

Cape School Board Member, Janet Maull-Martin, says, "This gives us an opportunity to let them know that we love them and we wish them the very best, and we want them to know that we are Cape proud and Cape strong."

The school wanted to add a personal touch to graduation, giving students the chance to be handed their diploma, after holding its virtual commencement on Tuesday.
