(REHOBOTH, Del)-After 12 years of hard work on the USA field hockey team Carrie Lingo finally made the 2008 Olympics in Bejing. She said being in the Olympics was an incredible experience.
"Competing in the Olympic games is an emotional journey of hard work and support from family and friends, stepping on the field representing the red, white, and blue is something every athletes cherishes."
Lingo said while she was over in Beijing she did something she never thought she would do.
"Meeting George W. Bush and his family at the Olympic games was one of my highlights for me. his support and excitement for the athletes was contagious."
Lingo's passion is evident for the sport. This week she is working with young field hockey players in her annual elite connection skills camp at Cape Henlopen High School.
Neva Richardson said she is learning a lot from Carrie.
"The best part about receiving instruction from an Olympian is they have been where you are, they have been past it, and they have been all over the world,"said Richardson.
Normally, several members of the USA team would be at Lingo's camp to help her out but they're in Rio, part of an experienced squad.
"We have veterans that will be the core of the group like Captain Lauren Crandall,Rachel Dawson, and local athletes to watch Caitlin Van Sickle from Tower Hill, as well as Katelyn Falgowski our St. Marks graduate,"said Lingo.
