(REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.) - It is national fried chicken day.
Gus and Gus on the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk are experts in the fried chicken arena.
Many say they have the best in the area.
Owner Gus Svlois believes their special Henny Penny fryer makes the difference and gives it the rich texture.
"The pressure type of chicken, not fried in a deep fryer, like the other people do, a special machine," Svolis said.
Customers can taste the difference.
"Well the outside was incredibly crispy and I don't know. It tastes just like the beach," Ben Miller from Washington DC said.
The restaurant has become as big a part of beach life as the sand and the water. It has a been a Rehoboth staple since 1956.
"We've been coming for 25 years, spending a week in Rehoboth Beach and everyday Gus and Gus," said Brian Setree from Pennsylvania."
Stacy Giatas, an employee said, "People come because of our family here. We treat customers and people here like family, even the foreign students."
Those foreign students from Bulgaria, who study in Rehoboth in the summer, have the chance to work thanks to Gus and Gus.
"Oh, everything here is amazing. They are so nice, the people who work here," One student said.
"It's a great opportunity cause there are people coming from all across the country and know this place, another student added" "My boss she's so nice too."
According to the U.S. census of agriculture, Sussex County is the top chicken meat producing county in the United States.
