Troopers arrest Lewes man in carjacking of handicapped man

Delaware State Police arrested 44‑year‑old Jarad Hammond of Lewes on charges of first‑degree robbery and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony following a carjacking in Newark on Feb. 21.

(CHESTER, Md.)- The Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Office says a woman reported being car jacked in Thompson Creek Mall by a man who was hiding in the rear seat of her car.

The victim stated that the suspect made her drive towards the boat ramp on Thompson Creek Road and when he thought they were being followed, he jumped from the car near the 500 block, according to police.

The only description of the male was he was wearing a baseball hat, blue sweatshirt and jeans.

A Sheriff's K-9 attempted a track of the area without the dog picking up any scent.

A search of the area should have located footsteps in the muddy areas but did not.

A check of the victim's vehicle revealed that there wasn't enough room in the rear seat area due to numerous items there.

At that time the victim stated she wasn't sure if the male was in the rear or front seat.

When questioned, the woman refused to cooperate.

A check of records indicated several previous calls to the location for mental issues. At this time there is no indication that the incident occurred.
