City Christmas Tree Arrives in Rehoboth Beach

(REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.) - Christmas has officially arrived in Rehoboth Beach with the city's latest addition to its holiday decorations.

A fresh 30-foot pine tree arrived at the bandstand Thursday morning to serve as the city's official Christmas tree.

"Our tree has arrived just now from a generous donation from Bill Graff and Jeff Schuck who are in Rehoboth Beach and donated this beautiful tree to the city this year," said Krys Johnson, a spokeswoman for the city.

Delmarva Power and city crews helped prop the tree up where it was decorated with lights, garland and topped with a star.

Locals can apply with the city to donate a Christmas tree but the city said it's a selective process

"We start Christmas in July. That's when we start pushing out press about asking for trees if anyone has one that they would like to donate," said Johnson. "Reds Dolson from JL Briggs is our go-to guy for that. Reds goes out and takes a look at the trees and approves which one is the best for the city."

Some visitors downtown today said there's nothing like spending the holidays at the beach.

"The decorations are always early and very beautiful," said Dayne Gable of Bethany Beach. "It's just a happy place."

Rehoboth's official Christmas tree lighting will happen Friday, Nov. 24 at 7 p.m.
