Richard W. (Rick) Meehan is the current Mayor of Ocean City, having been elected to the City Council in 1985 and serving as City Council President for 14 years before taking office as Mayor in June 2006. A graduate of the University of Baltimore with a B.S. in Business Administration, Rick was born in New York City but grew up in Baltimore. He spent his summers working at the beach during high school and college, eventually moving to Ocean City permanently in 1971.
Meehan is involved in several local organizations, including the Downtown Association, Chamber of Commerce, and the Ocean City Art League. He also serves as President of the Delmarva Irish American Club and Co-Chairman of the Ocean City St. Patrick’s Day Parade. As Mayor, he is a member of the Pension Committee, Tourism Commission, Transportation Committee, and Police Commission. His top priorities include stopping US Wind from building wind farms and ensuring that Ocean City remains as safe as possible for its residents and visitors.
