Delaware COVID-19 Vaccine Taskforce Asking People To Report Side Effects After Johnson & Johnson Pause

DELAWAREDelaware has paused the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and is keeping an eye on federal agencies to say when it can be used again.

Events where the Johnson & Johnson vaccine would have been used are canceled until further notice. As of Friday afternoon, there have been no cases of blood clots due to the vaccine reported in Delaware.

DPH Medical Director Doctor Richard Hong says it's important to report any symptoms from any of the three shots.

"This just proved how the vaccine safety issue is working out," Dr. Hong said. "And, you know things do happen. And that's why it is so important that we report any side effects or reactions through the appropriate channels."

You can contact the vaccine call center or go to the provider who gave you the vaccine to report any side effects.

As eligibility for the vaccine has expanded to 16 and over, vaccine locations are expected to expand as well. But it comes at a loss as Dover International Speedway will only be used as a mass vaccination site through April.

Governor John Carney was at a groundbreaking event in Seaford Friday and says with pharmacies doing a big part of the state's vaccinations, there is not much of a need for bigger sites like the speedway.

"There's less demand for the big clinics and then you have people a little bit hesitant," Carney said. "So that in a couple of weeks maybe we are going to have to deal with that. We're ready for it. We know it's coming."

Changes to the process, but the state is standing firm that getting vaccines into arms is the way to get back to the normal we once knew.
