DELAWARE- More mask changes coming soon, as Delaware takes another step aligning itself with CDC recommendations. Effective this Friday, May 21, vaccinated people are no longer required to socially distance or wear masks in most settings, but there are some exceptions. As well as all capacity restrictions will be lifted. Although the state is lifting the mask mandate, it says that each business can still impose mask requirements for customers and employees if they want. Exceptions being that masks are still needed in state buildings, public transit, planes, schools, health care places, and other congregate settings. The state says the science is showing vaccines work. Gov. John Carney, (D) - Delaware said, "The bottom line is we really gotta lean into getting everybody vaccinated. If we get everybody vaccinated it's not a problem. right now we got about 50% who are vaccinated roughly and about 50% who aren't vaccinated." For those unvaccinated, masks are still recommended in all public settings, with the Division of Public Health saying serious illness is more likely to happen in those people. Urging those who feel sick to still be safe. Dr. Karyl Rattay, Director of DPH said, "Things are getting better but COVID has not gone away. Getting tested if you develop symptoms whether you are fully vaccinated or not still is vitally important and more important if you are not vaccinated." If you look at the state's data dashboard for COVID information, Governor Carney says all areas are looking better as more people become vaccinated. Carney said, "Things are getting better everyday, new cases we're down to 120 on a seven day moving average, hurdling downward to fewer than 100." The message very clear as state health experts are still asking people to get the vaccine to protect themselves and others. All changes go into effect starting Friday at 8 a.m. The next goal the state is reaching for is to get 70% of all Delawareans vaccinated.
