Delaware Rep. Carney's Son Named in Deadly Hazing Lawsuit

(GEORGETOWN, Del.)- The eldest son of Delaware Congressman John Carney is in hot water for his alleged connection with the death of a college student.

Congressman Carney's son Samuel Carney has been brought into question. Samuel is named as a defendant in a $25 million wrongful death lawsuit; stemming from the death of a 19-year-old Clemson university student.

The lawsuit claims Tucker Hipps went headfirst over a bridge into a lake and was discovered dead. Police say the victim was participating in a fraternity hazing incident involving members of the Sigma Phi Epsilon chapter at Clemson University.

We reached out to Carney's office and received this statement from Congressman Carney and his wife, Tracey Quillen Carney:

"No one - certainly no parent - can feel anything but sympathy for this family's grief and anger. We have faith that those trusted with investigative and legal authority will act based on facts. Our advice to Sam since the tragedy in September has been to tell the truth and remember that any detail might help. That continues to be our message to him."

An autopsy shows Hipps suffered from blunt force trauma. The Oconee County Sheriff's Office are investigating.
