Delmar Police Corporal Keith Heacook Escorted Home & Respects Paid By Community He Served

DELMAR- Delmar Police Corporal Keith Heacook was escorted to Delmar Sunday afternoon by police departments in Maryland and Delaware.

People lined the streets to pay their respects to Corporal Heacook and show support for his family. Many people sat for hours across from the Delmar Police Station awaiting his arrival.

Once the procession reached the station, those watching were overcome with emotion.

"Trying to hold back tears for the family and Corporal Heacook," Justin Seymore said. "I mean I grew up here in Delmar, so just here and just knowing Corporal Heacook, especially when the bagpipes started playing that just gave me chills."

A softball tournament and jeep convoy were organized Saturday and donations from those events will be put into a trust fund for Corporal Heacook's son Matthew. Players who participated were honored to play for Corporal Heacook and his family over the weekend.

"It's very nice that the softball community and the Delmarva community could come out and support this family, spend time with each other and have fun in this tragic situation," Cody Brown  said.

Funeral arrangements for Corporal Heacook have not been announced.
