(GEORGETOWN, Del.)- Delaware State Troopers and local police officers responded to Delaware Technical Community College for a reported threat made to a student.
WRDE was told the call came in Monday morning. A female student felt unsafe after an argument with her ex-husband spilled onto the DelTech campus in Georgetown, said Campus Public Safety Chief Bill Wood.
"My officers were dispatched and checked the campus for the vehicle the husband was driving. Wasn't found on campus. Georgetown police and state police also responded," said Wood.
Police combed through the campus, looking for the suspect's vehicle, but did not spot a vehicle that matched the description of the alleged victim's ex-husband's vehicle.
The woman allegedly feared for her life after she was told her ex-husband, who may have been armed with a gun, had followed her to the school, according to authorities.
Wood said not only calling 9-1-1 but also campus police was a good move on the student's part.
"We want them to contact us because we're really the first responders for student safety, and safety of the campus atmosphere is really important to us."
The college has been cleared of any potential harm. Delaware State Police are investigating.
Wood said the campus crime is typically low and incidents like these are usually rare.
"Statistically we have a very low crime rate, almost non-existent. I think part of that is because of the partnership we've developed with our student population, our faculty and staff," said Wood.
