Details on Booking Appointments for Those Eligible to get Vaccine

DELAWARE - "Hope is on the horizon," Delaware Governor John Carney using that slogan as the state looks ahead to a busy weekend of vaccination. As the states moves in phase 1B, it is targeting a smaller group within that phase, to get the vaccine first. This weekend in Georgetown the state will vaccinate people 65 and older. To make the process as efficient as possible the state is asking that each person books an appointment ahead of time, and brings their ID, and confirmation of their appointment.  13,500 doses, that's how many vaccines the state has planned to get into people's arms. Since the state moved in Phase 1B, it has had over 73,000 requests for appointments. As of today the state has given out over 54,000 vaccines, but it still has 41,000 doses waiting to get out. As the state moves into its drive thru vaccine plans in Delaware City and Georgetown this weekend, it wants people to be ready to go. First and most importantly, you will need to have requested and booked an appointment through the state's website. Once you are booked, you need to bring a valid ID such as a drivers license and also the email showing that you are registered, which can be printed out or shown on a mobile device. Anyone who does NOT have an appointment will be turned away according to the state.  If you haven't registered yet or plan to it's pretty simple says DPH, you will not need your exact medical records or insurance card. The state asks if you are booked for one of the drive thru events, do not get out of your car and wear something that can easily expose the upper arm to get the shot. The state also stressed that right now it is only vaccinating only those 65 and older in phase 1B. Others eligible will need to wait and cannot currently register to get their vaccine, if you are under the age of 65, a message pop up letting you know you can't register yet.  The state said you can also check with your pharmacy or primary care provider to see if you can get your vaccine with them. Because so many people registered, the state says each person will get their chance to get vaccinated, just that availability can be tight at times, but is working its best to get all 200,000 people eligible in phase 1B vaccinated as quick as possible. DPH says the easiest way to register is online. The state says it does have a call center but if you can have someone help you fill it out online, that would be the quickest way to do it.
