(OCEAN CITY, Md.)- The Dew Tour won't be stopping by Ocean City for its fifth consecutive year this summer.
Lack of attendance is not the reason the tour decided to skip Ocean City this yea, according to Ocean City spokeswoman Jessica Waters. In fact a record-breaking 100,000 visitors attended the tour last year. The tour simply cites format change for the reason they're skipping out this summer.
"It's disappointing but at the same time we always knew that in some point in time they would change their format," said Ocean City Mayor Richard Meehan. "If you follow the Dew Tour, 3-to-5 years at any one location is a long time."
According to www.VisitMaryland.org, the Dew Tour brought in an estimated $11 million dollars to Ocean City businesses. Without the money this year, that could mean a loss in revenue.
"We've had people call and want to make reservations for the Dew Tour," said Nancy Schaffer, Burgandy Inn Hotel employee. "It will effect out business in that we won't have that particular population."
While Ocean City is sad to see the Dew Tour skate out of town, the national attention they received will help them bring more events to town in the future.
"The television exposure that we got on NBC and ESPN traveled all over the world," said Meehan. "People got to see what Ocean City looks like and how beautiful our beaches are all over the world."
