DEWEY BEACH, Del.- Over two decades of taking over the streets and beach and 2021 was no different. Many people gathered around the Starboard Restaurant Saturday for fun in a run.
Kids were able to participate in their own run from the matador this morning and this afternoon was everyone else’s turn. Walking the streets and then trying to avoid the bull on the beach.
Owner of Starboard Steve Montgomery says the large crowd was a good sight to see.
"Today is really about bringing a little bit of normalcy back," Montgomery said. "We got it under our belt. Next year is our 25th anniversary. We’ll build it up big for that one but people are very excited to check the box that we got to do the bull run this year."
There was a big party going on throughout the day but the big difference this event is making is the donations to the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company. The matador during today’s run was Dogfish Head Brewery Founder Sam Calagione and he says this event is all about community and a special partnership from one shark to another.
"They’ve been amazing not just as entrepreneurs but just the karma of giving back to your community," Calagione said. "And we’re two of Delaware’s shark-themed companies so we’ve had a long kismet relationship. One fish, two fish, green fish, blue fish."
