DSU 2020 Football Season Is Canceled

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) has canceled the entire fall sports season for 2020. Delaware State's football team learned of the announcement during their Thursday morning virtual meeting. "It was quiet and somber but I have been preparing these guys the whole time so it would not be a shock if it happened," third year head coach Rod Milstead said.  The conference cited "continued escalation of COVID-19 cases" in the areas where many of the student-athletes reside as the reason for the decision. The MEAC is still planning on holding its winter sports season. For the fall sports programs that have had their year interrupted, The conference said practices are still permitted.  Another area for football impacted by the announcement is recruiting. In a way it could end up benefiting the Hornets "You have to be a great salesman because now every school in the country is in the same way," said Milstead. "You can't take trips to the bigger schools and they cant wine you dine you to get that upper hand."  Both the MEAC and Milstead said a spring season with a schedule consisting of only conference teams is an option if there is to be Delaware State football for this academic year.
