BRIDGEVILLE, Del.- Food and supplies at times have been hard to fund at times in some stores, that's why earlier today Evans Farms Produce sold chicken made available by Amick Farms at a discounted price. Evans Farms Produce said that people started lining up at 7 a.m. to get their chicken. Katey Evans the Co-Owner of Evans Farms said, "We're excited to see the people out here and serve them as quickly as we can." Serving the line of cars along the side of the road, stretching nearly a mile down the road. Delaware State Police were even on hand to supervise drivers as they approached the busy Farm. Evans said the farm was doing this for a good cause. She said, "Because right now a lot of people are out of work with all of the state shutdowns and restrictions because of the Coronavirus." The way it worked was cars pulled up. Drivers placed their order to workers wearing protective equipment. An order slip was placed on the windshield. Workers then grabbed what they ordered. And placed it in their cars. The company had to get an start earlier than they expected. Evans Farms Produce says that they had to open up early today because they had to clear the line that was on the side of the road off as quick as they could and especially because what they're doing today is so unique. "Access to chicken is pretty scarce at the grocery level. Grocery stores are limiting how much chicken customers can get, so it's in high demand," Evans said. The farm did not limit the amount of chicken people could buy. Chicken breasts were sold for $1.80 per pound for a 10 pound bag and $1.50 per pound for 40 pound cases. Chicken wings and chicken tenders were $1.40 per pound for 5 pound bags. And judging by the line this morning, it wouldn't last very long. "From the turnout already, I do expect to sell out," Evans said And hopefully if all goes well, this won't be the last of the chicken sales for Evans and her crew. She said, "If today's a success, which it looks like it's going to be already. We're definitely going to try and line up another truck load sale." Evans Farms Produce says that they fully expect to sell out of the 32,000 pounds of chicken that they were selling today and that they're still open for normal business hours during the week.
