(REHOBOTH BEACH, Del.)- A ceremony honoring Sussex County philanthropist Matt Haley, who died tragically in a motorcycle accident last month, is set for Sunday, Sept. 28th in Selbyville.
Haley died in August while on a six-week humanitarian mission in northern India and Nepal.
Scott Kammerer, Haley's business partner, tells WRDE at about 11:25 pm EST on August 18th, humanitarian, renowned restaurateur, and James Beard Award winner Haley passed was pronounced dead.
He was in a medijet transport from Leh, India to New Delhi, India. On Monday at approximately 4:05 am EST he had been involved in a high- altitude, high- impact motorcycle accident while on a 6 week humanitarian expedition through northern India and Nepal.
Since 2011 Haley had traveled extensively and devoted significant time and financial resources to ongoing humanitarian efforts in the area. He was traveling with international film-maker and motorcycle expert Guarav Jani.
He was the only Delawarean to receive a James Beard Award.
He owned and operated restaurants throughout Sussex County. The celebration of Haley's life is set for Sunday at the 2 p.m. at Freeman Stage at Bayside, which will include live entertainment and food trucks. The event is open to the public.
