DELMARVA- As the unofficial start to summer kicks off with beach trips and barbecues, remember Memorial Day weekend is also a time to honor those who gave their lives serving our country.
Across Delmarva, several ceremonies are planned to help residents reflect and pay tribute.
In Millsboro, a Memorial Day ceremony will be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Sunday at 10 a.m.
Later that day, a solemn salute will take place at the Firefighter Memorial on the Ocean City Boardwalk at 1 p.m., followed by a flyover.
And at 1:30 p.m., members of the Delaware National Guard will lead a Memorial Day ceremony at Georgetown Circle.
Alongside the tributes, there's also no shortage of festive ways to enjoy the long weekend.
Bethany Beach will host the 10th annual Poseidon Festival, featuring pirates and mermaids throughout the weekend.
And in Rehoboth Beach, Zelky’s will hold its first-ever beach ball drop at noon on Saturday to mark the unofficial start of summer.
