April is behind us and May is bringing the warming hope of spring with it, for any stories you may have missed this week here is your Week In Review:
Monday:Â The Food Bank of Delaware in Milford unveiled a new machine Monday designed to process food waste more efficiently. The machine, called the ORCA, is capable of breaking down between 800 and 1,000 pounds of food waste in a 24-hour period.
Tuesday: Several Delaware organizations reported facing immediate funding threats due to efforts by the Trump administration to dismantle AmeriCorps. Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings is co-leading a coalition of 24 states and Washington, D.C., in a lawsuit aimed at blocking the proposed cuts.
Wednesday: April 30th marked 50 years since the fall of Saigon, which signaled the end of the Vietnam War. Although U.S. combat troops withdrew following the 1973 Paris Peace Accords, American contractors and military personnel remained in South Vietnam for two more years. Thursday: Delaware Gov. Matt Meyer announced the creation of a new Office of Gun Violence Prevention and Community Safety. The office will coordinate efforts between state and local governments, as well as community organizations, to address gun violence.
Friday: Friday marked 100 days since Gov. Meyer took office. His administration has focused on key issues including affordable housing, job growth, and public education. Recent initiatives have included proposals to increase teacher pay and implement stricter cell phone rules in classrooms.
