DELMARVA - It was another busy week on Delmarva. 

Monday: Minimum Wage Hike

A new year ushered in a new minimum wage. In Delaware, the state's minimum wage has been bumped up to $13.25 per hour, while in Maryland, it has jumped to $15 dollars an hour.

Tuesday: Hate Crime Investigation Unfolds in Laurel

A hate crime investigation is underway in Laurel as 21-year-old Aiyanna Winstead faces multiple charges for allegedly making racial statements towards the staff at Taco Chabelita. Winstead is accused of threatening to shoot them and blow up the restaurant. 

Wednesday: Rezoning Proposal in Milton

On Wednesday, Milton considered a significant proposal to rezone 65 acres of land off Route One and Sixteen. The proposed change would shift the land from agricultural to business commercial, potentially paving the way for a shopping center, gas station, hotel, or even a water park. While no vote took place on Wednesday, the project looms large, sparking debates over the future development of the area.

Thursday: Historical Discovery in Assateague State Park

A fascinating discovery unfolded in Assateague State Park on Thursday. A wooden plank, believed to be a piece of ship timber from the mid to late 1800s, was found. Friday: Legal Woes for Country Star Jimmie Allen

Milton native and country star Jimmie Allen faces legal troubles after loosing his lawyers yet again. Court records indicate that Allen's legal representation claims he did not comply with the terms of their agreement. The singer is currently facing multiple accusations of sexual assault, all of which he vehemently denies.

Evening Broadcast Journalist

Charlie Sokaitis moved to Delmarva to help kick off the morning news broadcast at CoastTV with CoastTV News Today and CoastTV News Midday in 2021. He's been a journalist since graduating from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 2004.
