In the middle of all that hustle and bustle, people are wrapped up in here along the coast, it is easy to miss a story along the way. To keep you up to date, here is your Week In Review:
MONDAY
Residents across Delmarva joined the rest of the nation Monday for Memorial Day ceremonies that honor those who lost their lives in military service. Events were held throughout Sussex County, drawing locals, visitors, veterans and civilians who gathered to pay their respects.
TUESDAY
Officials at Assateague Island National Seashore reported that there are currently no lifeguards assigned to the Maryland and Virginia portions of the park. According to the park’s superintendent, the National Park Service is working to resolve the issue but has not provided a timeline for when lifeguard coverage might resume.
WEDNESDAY
With the arrival of summer, Coast TV reviewed pet regulations for local beaches. In Lewes, dogs are prohibited on the beach from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. In Rehoboth Beach, often referred to as the nation's summer capital, dogs are not allowed on the beach or boardwalk at any time during the season.
THURSDAY
A colorful fence along the Lewes-Georgetown Trail, adorned with rainbow decorations, has become a memorial site for deceased pets. The property owner encourages passersby to leave their pets’ collars on what is referred to as the “Rainbow Bridge.” Trail users say the tribute is a meaningful way to honor their animals.
FRIDAY
Former President Joe Biden attended a Memorial Day ceremony in New Castle this week. The event also marked 10 years since the death of his son, Beau Biden, who died of brain cancer in 2015. Following the ceremony, Biden, 82, addressed his recent health diagnosis publicly for the first time. The former president has an aggressive form of prostate cancer but says the “prognosis is good.”
