Week In Review

The weather is improving here along the coast and that has led a lot of people outside to enjoy everything Delmarva has to offer. For any stories that may have slipped past you, this is your Week In Review:

MONDAY: Maryland State Sen. Mary Beth Carozza, Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan and others met with the chair of the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee to discuss offshore wind projects. With a new presidential administration in office, they said momentum is on their side in opposing developments they believe could hurt the region.

TUESDAY: The seat of Rep. Stell Parker Selby remained empty as Delaware lawmakers returned to Dover after a short break. The Democrat from District 20 has not participated in any votes this session following an unspecified health issue that took place before the session began. Though she was sworn in at her home, she has not yet attended in person.

WEDNESDAY: CoastTV reported on a bill introduced by Delaware Democrats in March that would restrict the state’s Division of Motor Vehicles from sharing a driver’s citizenship or immigration status with law enforcement. House Bill 60 would apply to holders of Driving Privilege Cards. If passed, the DMV could only release such information with the approval of the attorney general, a valid court order, or for voter registration purposes.

THURSDAY: People around the world, including on Delmarva, watched as a new pope was selected. Pope Leo XIV became the first North American-born pontiff to lead the Catholic Church. Local priests, parishioners and residents gathered to watch the historic announcement.

FRIDAY: An update was issued on the Georgetown-Lewes Trail expansion. Once completed, the 17-mile trail will be the longest in Delaware. While a start date has not yet been announced, officials say construction is expected to take just over a year once it begins.
