DOVER, Del. - The Delaware General Assembly has returned to Legislative Hall after its two week spring recess, but District 20 Rep. Stell Parker Selby has not.
In January, Parker Selby sent a letter saying she would not be present for the month following a medical event, which still has not been elaborated on or confirmed. Parker Selby had not been sworn in with the rest of her colleagues in January.
On Monday, March 24, House Speaker Melissa Minor-Brown and House Majority Leader Kerri Evelyn Harris released a statement and shortly after spoke with CoastTV, sharing that Parker Selby had been sworn in at a private home ceremony.
On April 17, CoastTV went to a Delaware 20th Representative District Democratic Committee meeting where Sue Nyden with the Sussex County Democratic Party read an email she said she received from Parker Selby, who was absent from the meeting.
"Believe me, I'm just as anxious as anyone to get back to Leg Hall, and more importantly, to see all of my wonderful constituents and community members," Nyden quoted Parker Selby's email.
"I want everyone to know that my office has remained open and is actively working on constituent and community matters. So if you, a friend or a neighbor needs assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out," the email continued.
CoastTV spoke with one of the Democratic party's deputy communications directors who said, as far as they know, Parker Selby is still "on the up and up."
That same person shared neither they nor their supervisor have heard anything about a special election, saying that, as there is no vacancy since Parker Selby was sworn in at home in March, there is no call for one.
As for Republicans, House Minority Leader Timothy Dukes told CoastTV he has no comment today but will talk with the House Speaker on Wednesday for a routine meeting.
