Here are Delmarva's top stories for the week of Sept. 25-29:

Monday: Milford School Board agrees to create committee for dress code concerns

300 signatures later, a petition from parents seeking changes to the Milford School Board dress code has spurred the creation of a committee. Parents say that strict rules are detracting from students' education by causing discomfort, while others appreciate having one less thing to worry about when getting their kids ready.

Tuesday: Lewes-Rehoboth Canal dredging to begin in October

Dredging is set to begin around Oct. 9 in the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal. Work will run between the Roosevelt Inlet and the Freeman Highway Bridge. The Army Corps of Engineers say the last time the canal was dredged was around 20 years ago.

Wednesday: Milford city council favoring allowing the sale of recreational marijuana

While many southern Delaware communities are banning marijuana, Milford seemingly has the opposite opinion. Many council members showed support for sales of the drug during a city workshop on Wednesday. "I think that, one way or another, things are changing and it's okay to accept change when it's being controlled and managed properly," said city councilwoman Katrina Wilson.

Thursday: Solar Panel Farms in Sussex County

Sussex County Planning and Zoning has received seven applications for solar farms in Sussex County. These would be located throughout the county in Lewes, Harbeson, Bridgeville, Laurel and Delmar. The applicant, energy company Consolidated Edison, said the farms would provide solar energy to businesses and homes that cannot get their own solar panels, though one neighbor was concerned that a farm fence line could be added at the edge of his property.

Friday: Oceans Calling returns to Ocean City

After being cancelled in 2022 due to bad weather, the Oceans Calling music festival has returned to Ocean City. The town has been preparing for an influx of people, as over 50,000 tickets were sold by the end of August, with changes in traffic patterns and accessibility to the boardwalk. The festival will include over 30 performances across Friday, Saturday and Sunday with acts like John Mayer, Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morissette, Fitz and the Tantrums and more.
