Fire Stations are Giving Out Free Smoke Alarms!

(SALISBURY, Md.) - Delmarva Power gave thousands of smoke alarms to fire stations in Delmarva, so the fire stations can give them away to residents.

"We want you to be safe, we care about your safety," says John Allen, Vice President of Delmarva Power.

Delmarva Power and Local fire stations have been giving out smoke alarms for 17 years. All you do is stop by a fire station to pick one up. But if you live in Salisbury, you can have your smoke detector delivered.

Chief Richard Hoppes says the Salisbury Fire Department will install it for you.

"It'll be up and running when families are in need," he tells WRDE.

The great thing about these smoke detectors is that they should last for about 10 years.

"Working smoke alarms will save your life," says Brian Geraci, Maryland State Fire Marshall.

You could say Delmarva Power and the fire company have a special connection.

"Many of our employees are volunteer fire fighters, they're EMT's, so they serve in the emergency services community," Allen tells WRDE.
