SUSSEX COUNTY, Del.- Labor Day weekend is here and many people are coming to the coast looking to celebrate. Despite the pandemic, there are many fun and safe ways to enjoy the long weekend.
Saturday get ready to shop 'til you drop. Starting at 10, the Shore Marketplace in Lewes is hosting the Open Air Market Day. Artists and vendors will be selling their work and providing demos outside. Guests can also enjoy food trucks and fresh seafood. All tables will be spaced out and masks are required. After a difficult few months, it's a great opportunity for the artists.
"They are losing a lot of their revenue this year so by doing the market here it gives them the opportunity to interact with customers and get back some of the revenue they're losing," said Marlene Lusk, co-owner of Shore Market Place.
Sunday kicks off the Summers End 5k in Dewey Beach. Starting at 6:30 runners will meet at Northbeach and run around Seabreeze, back to the finish line. This year there is no after party, but runners will receive goody bags and are able to tailgate after the run. Last minute runners can register on site the morning of.
"They're all socially distanced, and all wearing their face masks, as soon as the horn goes off and they cross the starting line, off comes the face coverings, and it's all single file," said Races2Run CEO and president, Wayne Kursh.
Friday is the first day bar seating is back open in Delaware. Groups must social distance and make a reservation before sitting at the bar. Places like the Wheelhouse in Lewes are excited to welcome people back to their three bars for the weekend.
